Panama Canal, the world’s engineering marvel, has improved the sailing time going from the East to the West of the Americas. The once 2-month journey through the rock strewn and wind-battered seas has now become 8 to 24 hours. What a great ease of passage! And, if you’re planning your next getaway and wondering what else the world famous Canal has to offer, then I tell you there’s a lot more. Besides the short cut, you’ll certainly appreciate the Panama Canal as a unique tourist destination.

Panama Canal Has An Interesting History

The idea of building the Panama Canal started as early as the 16th century with the French being the first to do the construction. They started digging in 1881, but the workers were forced to stop because of major problems like serious illnesses and mud slides. In 1904, the American engineers took over the Panama Canal project. The US engineers did a great job technologically and medically. They did the excavation work while improving the sanitation in the surrounding towns, thereby reducing the risks of deadly diseases. In 1914, the Panama Canal was completed. Its cost was $387 million and 25,000 human lives.

Great Scenery To Enjoy In Your Panama Canal Cruise

Besides its mechanical wonders, Panama Canal has a number of stunning and great natural scenery to offer. There are the untouched, tangled jungles in the waterfront that has a variety of flora and fauna. You’ll also see more than 120 species of wild life in the Barro Colorado Nature Monument. If you want to enjoy Panama’s landscape, the best time to visit is during the dry season which is from December to April, when there is not too many rains.

The ports of call depend on the Panama Canal cruise line and the length of your itinerary. Regular trips range from 10 to 14 nights, but if you want, you can spend more days, say 30 days or more, at sea on some tourist towns. Tourists normally stop at Colon, Panama because it is where the world’s 2nd biggest duty free zone is located. Native crafts, along with brand-name items, are sold here. The San Blas Island is another destination worth visiting. And the Panama City offers a mixture of colonial and cosmopolitan sites, besides the ease of access to the surrounding rainforest.

The Panama Canal cruises allow you to explore the Latin America – from the shores of Costa Rica to the coffee country of Colombia. To lure you further are the pristine beaches, snorkeling activities, the panoramic view of Mexico’s Pacific Coast, partying in Miami, or having a stroll through San Diego

The Future of Panama Canal

The Panama Canal will celebrate its 100 years of construction in the year 2014 with a $5.25 billion engineering innovation and expansion. A third lane of shipping traffic and other amenities is under construction. And it is expected to accommodate “post-Panamax” vessels. These are the commercial carriers and mega ships that exceed the original limitations of 1,000-ft. long and 100-ft. wide. The official estimate is that after the renovation, shipping and tourism in Panama Canal will double, to give both Panama and Latin America a much needed boost in their economies. You should visit Panama Canal

Panama City Xmas Celebrations

Panama City is the center of Christmas celebrations in Panama, with 25% of its 3 million population living in Panama city. The observance of this Panama holiday is done according to the mixture of Spanish and American traditions. Many Americans stayed long in Panama during the building of the Panama Canal. The Christmas celebration begins on the 2nd week of December, whereby houses and businesses are decorated for the upcoming Panama holiday. Traditional Christmas lights and Christmas trees are put up on houses and businesses to symbolize that Christmas is coming soon.

In Panama City, Christmas is observed by holding Christmas parades. These parades make Christmas an exciting Panama holiday. The children from around the Panama city, particularly those from poor families, are gathered, and together they are brought to the center of festivities to receive some gifts and to enjoy the parades. The floats used in the parade are decorated colorfully in national styles. The women and girls dress in their native party dresses called polleras, while the men and boys in their menunos. Everybody in Panama City is looking up for this Panama holiday, Christmas, so they can wear their native costumes.

Panama City Expats Celebrate

Expats and tourists enjoy going to the Panama City Beach to enjoy one more tradition of this Panama holiday where a giant Christmas tree is ceremoniously lighted while singing Christmas carols. Even members of the local churches come together and they serve hot cocoa and cookies to everybody. Firework displays can be seen and enjoyed at the end of the festivities on this Panama holiday. Later at night, a Christmas boat parade, with colorful and glittering lights, is held in Panama City Beach.

Many tourists come to Panama city in time for Christmas to witness and enjoy this Panama holiday and at the same time to escape the snowy and cold winter of their home countries. Other nations up north normally experience snow banks and ice storms during December so they come to Panama city to feel its hot and humid weather. Many people from the northern countries make sure that they choose Panama city as their Panama holiday destination during the Christmas season.

Family Time in Panama City

The Panamanians in general have their big Christmas, Panama holiday celebration on the 24th of December. There are no bells to announce the coming of Jesus Christ, only firework displays. Families enjoy the huge meals together as they light the fireworks that shoot out from every Panamanian town. After the meals, at around past 1:00 am of December 25, Christmas day, people put some Christmas cheers into their cars and drive around for a visit to other family members and friends. Some tourists who are experiencing this Panama holiday tradition for the first time find this practice unique.

In Panama city, visiting relatives and friends in the middle of the night during Christmas is not odd. It is their tradition, and the relatives and friends will feel insulted if you do not go to their houses for a plate of food and some drinks.

The Panama non-working days during Christmas are half-day of the 24th, the whole days of December 25 and 26. The 26 was just recently declared a public holiday in Panama City.

Panama offshore banking – Laws

The laws of Panama has superior banking secrecy laws, along with a very solid economic environment and strong political government. Panama offshore banking is one proof that you can still find a place that will allow business and people to do their banking in private. The present high speed communication and the internet makes it possible for anyone to set up and manage a Panama offshore banking and do your transactions from anywhere in the world.

If you are interested in setting up a Panama offshore banking account, you must first find a law firm to provide you with banking introduction services and guide you through the process of opening and managing an offshore bank account with the more reputable banks in Panama. You cannot just travel to Panama from where you reside, walk in to a bank and open an account. Panama offshore banking is done via introductions. If you skip this process, most likely your bank application will have to wait until you realize that introductions mean a big difference between bank approval within 5 days and approval in 5 months or maybe never.

Panama offshore banking – Account Opening

Many people tried to open a Panama offshore banking account without being introduced by a law firm, and they waited weeks, even months hoping their account would be approved. Of course the bank will be very polite and will accept your application, but without any introduction, your bank account may not be opened. This may never be understood by people from the North American or European culture, but in Panama offshore banking, introductions to the bank are very important.

Be smart. This is the best way to open a Panama offshore banking account. Hire a law firm whose lawyers are experts in offshore legal matters. You can contact them online, so you save dollars on travel tickets and hotel bills. The important thing about hiring a lawyer to assist in your Panama offshore banking account is you have attorney-client relationship. It means that all your important information cannot be passed on by your lawyer to another person, otherwise they will lose their license to practice.

Panama offshore banking – Asset Protection

You have worked so hard to protect your assets. Don’t get yourself fooled by “re-seller companies” or “offshore company mills”. They work by spamming the search engines and once they found you, take your “order” to open a Panama offshore banking account, then re-sell your order to a real law firm by passing on your information to them. It is obvious that they do not know anything about Panama offshore banking, so they re-sell. Doing this, however, these re-seller companies violate the attorney-client privilege. Your name, address, phone number, company name and other information will be passed on to other firm.

The websites of offshore company mills may look professional, but you will find later that they are not a law firm. They may lie to you and say that they have lawyers on their staff. Don’t get tricked by this. Ask for their license and look for the words “Law Firm”, “Lawyers” or “Abogados” displayed on the About Us Section of their home page about Panama offshore banking.

Panama offshore banking Advantages

Residents of countries outside Panama find it advantageous to open a Panama offshore banking account. An offshore bank is a bank which is outside a depositor’s country of residence. The number one advantage of offshore banking is stability. If you are from a place or country where there is a high risk of political turmoil, there is reason to fear that your assets may be frozen, seized or just disappear. This is particularly true if you are a high profile political figure, or a relative of one. In addition to stability you can also enjoy the offered privacy and security of Panama offshore banking so you can better explore investment opportunities throughout the country.

Panama offshore banking can give you higher interest rates on deposits than what you normally get in your home country. Offshore banks have lower overheads and there is no government regulation on offshore banking, so they can operate with a lower cost base. Government intervention on offshore banking is regarded as a form of tax on local banks, thereby reducing the interests on deposits. Panama offshore banking operates free of these regulations.

You can easily take advantage of the services of Panama offshore banking. You can trade stocks, bonds, funds, precious metals and currencies on markets anywhere in the world – all these in complete privacy. You can diversify your assets here by converting your dollars (if you are an American) into currencies that are expected to soar against the dollar in the future. Panama offshore banking enables you to open and maintain completely anonymous bank account/s, a service that you can rarely find in other countries.

Panama offshore banking no worries

There is nothing to worry about your mutual funds in Panama offshore banking. These are managed by competent financial analysts, and they rank among the best in the industry. They even outperform their American counterparts in trading markets and assets management. These financial analysts of Panama offshore banking have flexible and powerful investment techniques, giving you profits from your mutual funds and mutual fund advisors, with complete secrecy.

Panama offshore banking is linked most of the time to offshore companies, trusts or foundations that have some tax advantages specifically defined. Panama is a favorable jurisdiction, so you can legally avoid paying tax for your income if you have an offshore International Business Corporation. An offshore bank will pay you interest on your deposits without deducting tax. This is another advantage of Panama offshore banking, particularly if you do not pay tax on your incomes worldwide.

Panama offshore banking home advantages

Offshore banking has many advantages over banking in your home country. To sum up, you have greater and complete privacy of your account/s, you get low or no taxation, and you get easy access to your assets or deposits. Moreover, you are protected against local political or financial instability in your residence country. With offshore banking services, you will have peace of mind, knowing that your assets will be managed competently and far from being frozen or seized by some government authorities in your place of residence and not all from Panama offshore banking.

Are you planning to make a trip to Panama and at the same time contribute your share in saving the planet earth from global warming? You may book at one of the eco tourism trips in Panama. For your trip to be considered eco tourism or green travel, you must make sure that the environment and/or the residents of the region benefit from your trip. It is not enough that you go through a rainforest or go boating on a river. An example of eco trip is when you raise funds to protect or rehabilitate a watershed on a rafting adventure. If you stay in a hotel that provides a recycled tissue paper, your stay is considered an eco vacation.

If your trip conserves or does not damage the place you are visiting, that is green travel. There are many green travel opportunities in Panama. Virgin forests and unexplored lands are scattered all over the country. Panama is a great tourist destination. The Panama Canal, the 9th wonder of the world, is found here. The country has hosts of things to offer to its eco tourists.

If you want adventure, you can go rafting on a whitewater river It will give you a chance to discover the tropical rainforest. Rafting is a uniquely new adventure that draws many rafters from all over the world. You may choose from full day or overnight rafting with per person prices at $90 for full day and $160 for overnight rafting. Students are normally given special discounts.
Whenever you are travelling you are going to need to have the best possible travel information for and about the area that you are travelling to. This is something that you are going to need to pay attention to and look for long before you even think about going out and about on your travels. How you are going to find the information that you need about the different places that you could possibly travel? How many places do you really need to look for and into before you really do find the pertinent and oftentimes relevant information that you will need to know about before you even leave your house?

In terms of being able to find good, relevant information about the local climate and business opportunities and the like, you would be very wise to look this stuff up a good bit of time in advance before you decide that you are going to go on vacation – or on holiday as the British and Europeans refer to it – to Panama or anywhere else in the world. One of the things that you really are going to want and need to find out about is the weather and the climate in the area you are travelling to.

This is very important especially if you have allergies and/or sensitivities to different temperatures. If you are someone that does have sensitivities to extreme heat or cold or wet/ humid conditions you are going to want to know in advance so that you can make very sure to pack the right type of clothing for your trip. This is also important to know so that you do not end up packing enough to sustain you for between 7 and 21 days when you are actually only going to be away for 5 days.

You might also be best advised to look into finding out what you need to know in terms of what travel documentation and possibly immunizations you will need ahead of time. Although you are not always going to find this type of information on websites that offer blogs and articles on travel tips and matters like the current Real Estate market in a place like Panama, you need this information regardless. Those that are indeed looking for good information that really does relate to the Real Estate market and investing as a few articles do will find this information very easily on many different websites that are interested in providing you with good information.

When it comes to having a good time while you are on vacation and making the most of the weather and pleasant climate that Panama offers year round you will find some pretty good information in these articles. Information that runs the gamut and covers things such as the weather patterns, the specific things to do that would interest you, the financial climate and situation and culture is the best that you can ask for. The one thing that you do not want is to find information that has no relevance to your search.

Panama was the native name of a village on the Pacific Coast of the Gulf and Isthmus of Panama. Before its discovery by the Spanish, Panama was inhabited by a large number of Amerindians. The groups lived in organized chiefdoms, depending on the area’s fish, birds, and sea turtles, and on starchy root crops for food. Numbering nearly one million when the Spanish arrived in 1501, the largest group was the Cuna. The country’s name, which means “land of plenty fish,” may also come from the Cuna words panna mai , or “far away,” a reply to Spaniards who wondered where to find gold. The name Panama is also believed to be a Guarani Indian word meaning “a butterfly,” and also signifying a mud fish, perhaps because the flaps of the mudfish resembled the wings of a butterfly.

Panama has been subjected to numerous occupations by foreign powers since the Renaissance period. Since 1513, when the Spanish explorer Vasco Nuñez de Balboa crossed a narrow strip of land and discovered the Pacific Ocean, the Isthmus of Panama has been a major crossroad of the world, linking two great continents and separating two great oceans. His discovery opened up a shorter route to Peru and the gold of the Incas. Fortune seekers from Europe could land at Colón, cross the narrow isthmus, and set sail on the Pacific for Peru.

By 1519 Spanish settlements had been established, and the king’s appointed governor, Pedro Arias de Avila, had settled in the village of Panama. Under his rule, Balboa’s Indian allies were killed and other Indians were enslaved. Many fled to the jungle or to the swampland and isolated islands on the northeast coast. A priest, Bartolomé de la Casas, was outraged by the Indian enslavement and persuaded Spain’s government to send African slaves in their stead. The separation of Indian groups from Panamanians remains today. African slaves became so important that the British were given a contract to deliver 4,800 slaves a year for 30 years. Slave revolts moved the Spanish king to interrupt the delivery for a time.

The California gold rush in the 1840s renewed interest in travel between the oceans. In 1845, the United States helped build the first transcontinental railroad that crossed Panama. Meanwhile, France, Britain, and the United States explored the possibility of a canal to join the two oceans by way of either Panama or Nicaragua. In 1879 Ferdinand de Lesseps of France, and builder of the Suez Canal, began construction of a canal in Panama under a license from Colombia. However, disease (yellow fever, malaria), rain, and mud made him abandon the project. From 16,000 to 22,000 workers had died.

You can visit what is considered to be one of the wonders of the world, the Panama Canal. The Panama Canal is an engineering feat as well as a tribute to the power of the human imagination. The forty-eight mile long canal creates a passageway between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Prior to the canal being built ships would have to sail by using the Drake Passage, which was dangerous and long. The canal cut the travel time in half. But building the canal was an expensive and dangerous and took a long time to complete. Over twenty seven thousand workers died during construction and it cause around 375 million dollars to complete. There is a new project along the canal to allow it to accommodate more traffic and to update two more flights of docks. The cost of this project is estimated to be 5.25 billion dollars and will be completed sometime in the year 2015. The Panama Canal has attracted industry and business to the country, but tourists travel to Panama for its beauty. When visiting Panama you should not miss taking a trip on the canal.

After visiting the canal you might be interested in visiting a rainforest. Panama is one of the best places to visit a rainforest – it may be only ten minutes away from your hotel! The Parque Natural Metropolitano is in the city limits of Panama City. There is a road that will take you to observation area where you can see hundreds of plant and animal species. Stop at Los Trinos to bird watch, Cedar Hill is the highest point at 492 feet above sea level and there are several trails that you can hike. The Mono Titi Trail and La Cienaguita trails are moderate and will take you about one hour to complete. Other trails include Los Caobos, Los Momotides and El Roble all can be completed in an hour or less. If you wish to avoid crowds take the Caobos Trail and the easiest trail is Momotides. At the top of the hill you can see the Pacific Ocean, the entrance of the Panama Canal and the islands – Flamenco, Naos, Perico, Taboga and Taboguilla. The best time to see birds is either early or late in the day.

Other things to do in Panama include river rafting at the Rio Chargres/Chiriqui Grande. Hike the Parque Natural Metropolitano. Have a picnic in the Summit Botanic Gardens. Take a night tour of the Avenida Balboa. Go to the Causeway and visit the Smithsonian facilities. Camp in the Parque Nacional Campana. Go to Lake Gatun and fish or visit the Barro Colorado Island. Back pack to Bocas del Toro and San blas o playa Venao. Travel to Taboga and visit the Wild Life Refuge. Capture pictures of the Aguila Harpia the most dangerous prey bird in the world. Visit one of the many different Regional Fairs that may be in progress.

Panama has so much to do in such a small area. If you are interested in a trip that will provide you with an opportunity to do something unusual for a reasonable price – choose Panama.
