Most of Panama is situated just eight degrees above the equator, so temperatures vary little from month to month. What does vary however is the rainfall and humidity as well as the average temperature of each region. Panama has climates which differ from the ‘light sweater’ spring like environment of Boquete to the extreme heat and humidity of Colon.

Panama City

Panama City is at sea level, so the climate is quite warm and humid (depends on the month), similar to Miami. Air conditioning is everywhere: taxis, hotels, stores, restaurants etc. Light city clothing is recommended for Panama City. Walking the city at noon can be uncomfortable, but the early mornings and evenings are fantastic. Beach towns and the islands are warm, but a nice breeze and lower humidity on some islands makes it quite pleasant for beach goers. The dry season or what the locals call summer is from December until May and the weather is warm and breezy with very little rain. It is also feels cooler as the humidity is lower. Definitely the best time to visit the city.

Bocas Weather

Bocas del Toro experiences a tropical climate with temperatures ranging from 70 to 90F. Bocas del Toro experiences relatively low humidity, with light breezy days and light temperate nights.

The rainy season in Bocas takes place from December through January and then again June through August, and boy, can it rain, sometimes for days at a time!

The dry season runs from February through May and during this period it is not uncommon to miss the raindrops all together. However, since we are in the tropics, short storms can come and go at any time. The great part about this tropical positioning is that Bocas enjoys warm temperatures and light ocean breezes all year round.

Sometimes small storms can swing through but they usually do not last very long. More often, are the stretches of bright sunlight and clean skies. The most common wind direction in Bocas del Toro, Panama is North and there are several popular spots for surfing.

For the most part, Bocas enjoys calm sea conditions. Because Bocas del Toro is an archipelago, many of the islands protect us from rough weather and high seas. Most people say that the best time to visit Bocas del Toro is in the Fall and Spring when there is the least rain and the clearest waters. But in reality, almost year-round you can find a sunny beach to enjoy.

The Anton Valley and Chiriqui Province

The Anton Valley and Chiriqui Province are both at higher elevation and enjoy cooler weather. The Caribbean and Pacific Coasts have slightly different seasons. Because of the great variety of islands, mainland beaches, mountains and valleys, just about any time of year there is always somewhere pleasant to visit in Panama.

Days are warm to hot, nights much cooler; temperatures range from 32C (90F) during the daytime to 21C (70F) in the evening practically year-round. Humidity is always high at about 80 percent. The rainy season takes place between October and November, and the best months to visit are mid-December and late March.

Temperatures vary according to geography. The climate is less tropical at higher elevations. In mountain areas the average annual temperature ranges from 10C to 19C (50-66F) at various mountain elevations.
